The background music stops. Some real serious shit is
going down.
男子Ａ：テニスの強化選手に推薦されて、アメリカ行くって…１年か２年か。
健二：（アメリカ!?なんだよそれ…）
女子Ａ：じゃあね、高嶺。お疲れ！
愛花：うん、お疲れ様。
健二：マナカ姫…。
健二：マナカ姫！
Kenji rushes out of the tennis club room and meets
Manaka.
愛花：健二くん。どうしたの、そんなに慌てて。
健二：聞きたいことがあるんだ。ちょっといいか？
愛花：えっと、ごめん。鈴木先生に用事があって…急ぐから、じゃあね。
Manaka takes her leave.
健二：マナカ姫！（鈴木先生に用事って…まさかほんとに？）
Kenji waits impatiently for Manaka at the courtyard
during the afternoon.
健二：（留学のこと、マナカ姫に聞かないと…）
He tries calling Manaka.
健二：（ダメだ、出ない…）
Call’s not connecting.
健二：（そうだ。鈴木先生に用事ってことは、職員室か？）
Kenji walks to the staff room and sees Manaka just
outside the staff room.
愛花：失礼しました。
健二：いた！マナカ姫！
愛花：健二くん。待っててくれたの？
健二：ああ、どうしても聞きたいことが…。
The background music changes. Some more serious shit
is going down.
愛花：せっかく待っててもらったのに、ごめんね。今日は寄るところがあって、一緒に帰れないの。
健二：マナカ姫、話だけでも…。
愛花：またね。
Manaka leaves without explaining much. Kenji worries
she is avoiding the topic, if there is.

Kenji goes home depressed.

Kenji’s phone rings.
健二：（来た、マナカ姫）
He picks up the phone.
健二：もしもし。
愛花：もしもし、ごめんね。話って？
健二：直接、話したいんだ。そっとまで行っていいかな？
愛花：家に？かまわないけど…。
健二：すぐ行く、じゃあ。
Kenji hangs up.
健二：よし…。
He runs out of house to Manaka’s backyard.
愛花：健二くん。
健二：マナカ姫。ごめんな、何度も。
愛花：ううん、こっちこそバタバタしちゃって。今日、パパの誕生日だから。

Though interesting birth dates aren’t that unexpected to me. I have a lot of
family members (including myself) with interesting birth dates.

must suck being Manaka’s father during his school days.
健二：あ、そうなんだ。おめでとう…ってのも変か。
愛花：だから今日の練習お休みするって鈴木先生に。帰りは、ケーキの材料を買いに行ったの。
健二：へえ、そうだったのか。留学の準備じゃなかったんだ…。
愛花：？ そうだパパってばね、嘘が大嫌いなのに、エイプリルフールに生まれちゃったの。おかしいでしょ？

Kenji receives a message.
健二：ごめん、メール…あ、あいつからだ！
Kenji reads the message.
「なあ、なんかマジに悩んでたみたいだけど、さすがにもう嘘に気づいたよな？」
健二：やられた…。
Manaka speaks up.
愛花：どうしたの、大丈夫？
健二：はあ、実は…。
Kenji tells her the entire story.
愛花：……。あなたって、可愛い…。
健二：そんな笑うなよ…。ほんとに焦ったんだから。
愛花：うん、ありがと。そんなに心配してくれて。でもあなたと離れるなんて、わたし無理だから。
健二：マナカ姫…。
Before Kenji leaves, Manaka gives Kenji a goodbye kiss
to calm his nerves.
During the evening, Kenji goes to the live house for
some kind of musical. 劇団とんがりボウシ
健二：今日はハズレだ…。演出家の自己満足って感じだし、演技は練習不足だし、そもそも脚本が…。
Kenji returns home to sleep. It has been a rough day
for him.
He imagines Manaka telling him
