??
September, unknown day
Kenji walks home from school. He sees Manaka at the
bookstore.
Kenji: (Huh? That’s Takane…)
Manaka: Kojima-kun.
Kenji: What’s up, Takane? Stopping on the way home?
Manaka: That’s not it! I just had something I needed to
buy at the bookstore…
Kenji: I was joking. Calm down… So what did you buy?
Manaka: A magazine called “Towano Watcher”.
Kenji: I see. A leisure magazine, right? Are you going
somewhere?
Manaka: Sometimes I tutor the next door grade-schooler.
As a reward for getting her grades up, I thought I’d take her somewhere.
Kenji: Is that so…? So, where are you going to go?
Manaka: That’s why I bought the magazine… I thought I
should check out some places before deciding. I’m looking after someone’s
child, after all. So I’ll go this Sunday.
Kenji: (Takane is so serious about this… Hm… I wonder…)
Are you going by yourself?
Manaka: …Yes, that’s the plan.
Kenji: I can come along with you, can’t I?
Manaka: Why?
Kenji: I just happen to be free this Sunday. Is that
okay?
Manaka: But, in that case, from other people’s
perspectives…
Kenji: It would look like a date?
Manaka: …
Kenji: I’m pretty knowledgeable when it comes to leisure spots.
Maybe even more so than that magazine. So how about it?
Manaka: Really?
Kenji: Yeah.
Manaka: Then… if you would.
Kenji: All right. Then I’ll see you this Sunday?
Manaka: Yeah… Sunday.
Manaka takes her leave.
Kenji: (I was a bit aggressive there… I should go and
check out some spots.)
But you did manage to get Manaka to go out with you, right?
No need to get too worried about it.
No need to get too worried about it.
Later that Sunday…
?? September,
Sunday
The two arrive at the hills.
Kenji: All right, we’ve arrived!
Manaka: It feels nice looking up at the sky… The leaves
are also beautiful…
Kenji: Yeah, it’s beautiful, but… all that walking has
made me hungry.
Looks like all that walking has made Kenji slightly
hungry. Not to worry: Manaka came prepared.
Manaka: Hehe… I made a lunch box. Would you like some?
Kenji: Hooray! Somehow, doesn’t this seem like a date?
Kenji is happy that Manaka has made bento for the both
of them, but it really looks like they are having a date. Manaka suggest they
go off-track then, so that no one would notice the two so much.
Manaka: Well, in that case, we’d better walk away from
the crowds.
Wouldn’t
that look even more like you two are having a date, Manaka?
Kenji: (That’s not what I meant…)
So you
think so as well, Kenji. Keep quiet and enjoy your picnic.
After having their picnic, they walk for a while more
before having tea at the riverside restaurant.
Kenji: Takane, I’ve never known that you were this good
at cooking. Thanks for the meal.
Manaka: Don’t mention it; it was my pleasure, hehe!
Kenji: The autumn leaves were beautiful. It was fun,
right?
Manaka: Yeah, but I feel a bit guilty now.
Kenji: Why?
Manaka: Because I was just supposed to come today for
Yumi-chan’s sake. So this is not good, right?
Kenji: It’s fine because now you know how much fun it is.
Hmm… You are really serious about everything, Takane.
Manaka: …
Kenji: Hm?
Manaka: …I’m sorry.
Kenji: …For what?
Manaka: You know, I also think to myself “Ah, I’m just so
odd.” It’s true. I don’t do things that I’m not allowed to. But I’m still well
aware of how withdrawn I am. Unlike everyone else, I’m just not good at
expressing myself… So, I’m sorry. I know that being together with me must be
tiring for you.
Lady, Kenji has a
wingman who routinely wins awards for being odd. I seriously don’t think it’s
tiring for him to be with you as it is being stuck with me.
Kenji evaluates his options:
(You are not like that at all.)
(Yeah, you’re a bit withdrawn.)
(But that’s Takane’s good point, right?)
He chooses the third option, since he likes how Manaka
is focused at what she does. Besides, he’s not one to sugarcoat things.
Kenji: And how can being diligent be a bad thing? I just
don’t agree.
Manaka: But…
Kenji: Personally, I think you’re fine as you are.
Manaka: …
They walk together to the Oku-Towano station.
Manaka: Kojima-kun.
Kenji: Hm?
Manaka: I’ve just realised it. If I had gone alone today,
I would’ve felt very lonely on my way home. You knew that, so that’s why you
offered to come with me, right?
Kenji: I wonder if that’s the case…
Don’t act blur,
Kenji.
Manaka: …You are so kind.
Kenji: Always help out one another when in need, right?
Manaka: Yeah… Thank you.
They return to New Towano station.
Kenji: So, see you later?
Manaka: Um, well… For the mixed doubles match, let’s do
our best, okay?
Kenji: Okay.
Manaka: We really have to practice hard…
Kenji: Right. Oh, it’s getting pretty late…
Manaka: Um… If you want to, maybe… Never mind. Bye.
Kenji: (…? Well… I have to practice extra hard…)
Moonstone’s notes
Like the flashback
pages from earlier, the date denoted is calculated backwards from the date of
the confession (14 October), so it will definitely be before I started the
game. However, the resultant date is unknown for these two days because I did
not record down the day number the events happened, so I was unable to
calculate backwards.
Translations are
adapted from the English fan translation of Love Plus. I’ve changed the
translations slightly so that it sounds more natural (at least to me).
