健二：今日は調子が悪いな。ほとんど拾えなかった…。

愛花：あなたのフォームって、キレイだと思うな？

He then goes to the art gallery. 

健二：ここ、人目につかなそうな場所もあったんだな。ここなら彼女と二人きりになれるかも…。

Daaaaaamit. Forgot to bring Kenji to his date.

Good thing I have time manipulation skills. Time set 18 hours behind.

Kenji arrives at the train station. Manaka is not there yet.

健二：マナカ姫は、まだ来てないみたいだな。

愛花：ひょっとして、待たせちゃったのかな？

健二：ううん、今来たところ。

Kenji tries to kiss Manaka outside the station, but he cancels that as there are too many people looking.

They then take the train to Towano-sakagami station, where they then walk to the indoor swimming pool.

健二：ちょっと、休憩するか。

愛花：うん。ちょっと冷えちゃったから、ジャグジーにいかない？

健二：いいな、それ。混浴温泉、貸切気分で！

Manaka recoils back in embarrassment.

健二：…ん？どした？

愛花：…あなたがヘンなこと言うからです。知らないっ。

健二：（ヘンなことって？）

They kiss at the swimming pool.

愛花：いつか、あなたのお嫁さんになりたい…。

After the date, Kenji brings Manaka home. It’s a rather short date.

Kenji then goes to the aquarium for the evening.

健二：ここ、人目につかなそうな場所もあったんだな。ここなら彼女と二人きりになれるかも…。

Today’s start up message is ハッピーバースデー！今日は一番大切な人が生まれた日。すーき！

That’s actually quite cute.

I shifted the time exactly 1 day ahead so that Kenji can have his celebration while I’m still free.

Kenji meets Manaka at the school courtyard.

愛花：健二くん。

健二：マナカ姫。なに？

愛花：自分のお誕生日を忘れちゃったの？そう…じゃあこれはあげない。

健二：ちょっと待った！いる！プレゼント！

愛花：ふふふ！じゃあ、約束してくれる？わたしのお誕生日を忘れないこと！

Lady, that’s three days after the wingman’s birthday. If Kenji doesn’t remember, I’ll make sure he does.

That's assuming I don't graduate first, though. 

健二：…うん。

愛花：その間はなぁに？…ふふっ、でも許してあげる。

Manaka takes out the nicely-wrapped present box from behind her.

愛花：あなたが生まれてきてくれた、ステキな日だもんね？はい、どうぞ。

健二：サンキュ！大切にするよ。

愛花：うん。お誕生日おめでとう。あなたにとって、いい１年になりますように。

Kenji looks at his present. It’s a glass pair. Of course as is usual, Manaka most likely kept one of them. What's interesting is that they emit the exact same frequency when struck, or so the description says.

A review of the presents received shows an interesting pattern: they are all pairs, where presumably one half is kept by Manaka.

Anyway, here’s a quote from exactly one year ago:

“No guarantees here. I’ll be in university by then, and by then it is possible I would have a real girlfriend. The only thing that would remind me is that her birthday is three days away from mine.”

Huh. That was overly optimistic. I’m changing my forecast to within 5 years from now, but I still think it might be too optimistic.

Kenji then goes for his test.

健二：今のテスト、まぁまぁだな。

After his test, he receives a call from Manaka.

健二：もしもし。

愛花：もしもし。わたし、愛花だよ。今いい？

健二：いいよ、どうした？

愛花：あのね…。週末、デートしよう？ここでいいかな？（室内プール）

健二：うん。いいよ。

愛花：じゃあ、持ち合わせは何時にしようか？

健二：そうだな…。

Late afternoon?

健二：４：00PM

After the call, Kenji receives a text from Manaka about that sudden invitation.

愛花：突然誘って、ごめんね。健二くんとデートしたくて、ガマンできなくなっちゃった

And another text regarding the upcoming cultural festival on 1 November.

愛花：もうすぐ学園祭。一緒に回れたら、きっと楽しいね。

愛花：ふふ、早く来ないかな

I thought you guys are on holiday on 1 November?  

Kenji walks home with Manaka.

愛花：ね、質問。

健二：ん？

愛花：小学生の頃から不思議だったんだけど…どうして男の子は掃除の時間になると元気になっちゃうの？

健二：そういや、そうかもな。

愛花：チャンバラごっこ、始めたりするじゃない？あと野球ごっことか。その勢いで掃除をしてくれれば、早く片付くのに。

健二：ハハッ、確かに。

愛花：どうすれば掃除に興味が向くのかな？何かいい案、ない？

健二：むしろ、一緒に楽しんじゃうとか？男側の心理に近づいて真相を探る！名探偵・愛花！

愛花：…適当なこと言って、もういいです。

健二：（なかなかいい案だと思うんだけどなー）

Kenji then goes to the aquarium in the evening.

健二：今日はあまり楽しめなかった…。ほとんどの展示品が休んだったしな。

Kenji then returns home to sleep. He imagines Manaka telling him

20 October, Tuesday

They walk to school together.

愛花：部活とお勉強の両立って、難しいのかな。

Look no further. I’ve got classes and Japanese Culture Society running at the same time.

健二：なんで？

愛花：他の部に所属してるこが、教室でそんなことを言ってたの。部活でクタクタになって帰ってから、勉強する気にはならないって。

University life is tough as well.

健二：あー、なるほどなぁ。

愛花：ね、わたし、まだまだ練習量が足りないのかな？

I know you are really competitive, Manaka, but this is not how you show it.

健二：へっ？

愛花：だって、帰ってから何もする気にならないほど疲れて帰ることなんてないんだもん。これって、練習不足ってことじゃない？部長に相談して、わたしだけでも増やしてもらおうかな…。

Kenji’s midterm was nothing special.

He then returns home to work out.

健二：今日は体が軽いな。なんか調子良さそうだぞ！

Kenji then styles himself.

健二：オートクチュールは仕立て服、プレタポルテは既製服。高校生の身じゃ手が届かないけど、そのうちオートクチュールも着てみたいよな。

He then goes to sleep, imagining Manaka telling him

Kenji goes for his mid term test for the morning.

健二：今のテスト、いい出来だ。勉強した甲斐あったな！

And also for the afternoon.

健二：さて、今日は中間テストだ。頑張ってみるか…。

健二：なんとか終わった…。あとは結果を待つだけだな。

Kenji receives a text from Manaka about this upcoming Halloween.

愛花：もうすぐハロウィン。仮装パーティなんて、楽しそう

健二：面白かも！

愛花：ふふ、早く来ないかな

It’s going to be even more special since you guys will be in Atami for Halloween this time.

He decides to call Manaka out for a short while in the library.

愛花：もしもし、どうしたの？

健二：あのさ。今から会えないかな、大丈夫？

愛花：いいよ、もちろん。

健二：じゃ、今から図書室で。

愛花：うん。会いたい、って言ってくれるだけど、うれしくなっちゃう。ふふ。

They meet at the corridor.

健二：マナカ姫！

愛花：健二くん。

健二：ごめん、急に呼び出して。

愛花：ほううん。わたしはいつも会いたいもん。

They then proceed to the library, where after they talk for a while, they kiss.

Afterwards, they walk home together.

愛花：ねぇ。あなたはアルバイトしてるよね。

Kenji goes to tennis club, where he is approached by a fellow club member.

男子部員：お前、最近評判いいな。

健二：そうなのか？

男子部員：あぁ、目立つし、頼れるやつだってな。

健二：（格好や行動に気を付けてるからかな…）

愛花：ふふ、やったね？

Shifted time back by 9 hours.

Kenji hurries to the small park, where he sees Manaka.

愛花：うん、ジャスト。時間に正確な人って好きだな。

健二：ありがと。

愛花：髪型変えちゃった。どう？

健二：そうだな…。いいな、そういうの。

愛花：ふふ、やった♥

Manaka is wearing a salmon pink blouse over a grey long-sleeved shirt and black leggings.

愛花：最近、こういう可愛いのが好きなんだけど、どう？カレシとして感想を聞かせてくれない？

健二：そうだな…。いいんじゃない。

愛花：ほんと？よかった。あなたのことなら、なんでもわかるんだから、なんて。

They kiss at the park before setting off for lunch.

They then continue on to the shrine.

Kenji holds Manaka’s hand as they walk together.

That’s probably because he was unnerved by what happened just now.

健二：あ、ごめん…。

愛花：ううん。…かわいい、なんて、ふふ。

They kiss on the way to the shrine.

In the shrine…

愛花：石畳って歩きづらいよね。

健二：あー、かかとのある靴だと確かに…。

愛花：…こういうとき、手を引いてくれたりすると、あなたのこと、もっと素敵だなあって思えるんだけどな？

健二：…精進します。コホン。お手をどうぞ、姫。

They kiss outside the shrine.

愛花：あなたの隣を歩きたいな？いつか、教会とかで…。

Manaka still has time, so Kenji suggests the cinema.

On the way to the cinema, Manaka looks at a car passing by them.

愛花：車の運転免許って、取るの大変なのかな。

And that’s why I don’t have a licence.

Besides, a driving licence is kind of useless without a car to drive. Public transport is acceptable enough for most cases anyway.

健二：どうかな…取りたいの？危ないからって禁止されてそうなイメージなんだけど。

愛花：将来、お医者さんになるなら必要なものだから、それは大丈夫。うちは回診もしてるから。

健二：なるほどな…ちゃんと考えてるんだ。

愛花：でも、あなたとドライブに行ってみたい、なんて言ったら禁止されちゃうかも。ナイショにしててね？

By then you will be an independent adult, so I don’t think you will need to keep that a secret.

They hold hands and kiss on the way to the cinema.

Here Kenji is kissing Manaka, while I am marvelling at how Manaka’s earrings defy the laws of gravity.

They arrive at the cinema.

愛花：ね、今日は何観よっか？もう決めた？

健二：そうだな。

Kenji evaluates his options

Kenji chooses the second movie. He never liked horror movies anyway.

Neither do I.

愛花：いいかも。じゃあ、行こうか？

After watching the movie…

愛花：楽しかったね！

健二：ああ、すごかったなー、あの主役のアクション！

愛花：うん、びっくりしちゃった。あれだけ体を動かせれば、楽しいだろうね？

健二：マナカ姫だったら、イケそうだけどな？ボディコントロールは得意そうだし。

愛花：ふふ。それはあなたもでしょ？

健二：まあな。

愛花：ね。二人でアクションスター、目指しちゃう？

Can I be your manager then?

健二：それもいいかもな？果ては夫婦アクションスターとして名を馳せる！みたいな。

Manaka becomes flustered.

愛花：…。

健二：ん？

愛花：あなたって…ううん、いい。

健二：（…？）

Don’t ask me either.

They kiss outside the cinema.

愛花：このまま、ずっとこうしていられたらいいのに…。

After the movie, they go to the nearby fast food restaurant for tea time.

健二：（マナカ姫のこと、そろそろ別の呼び方してみるかな…？）

Kenji evaluates his options.

4. エア・マナ (Call her that and I’ll beat you with an asparagus)
5. やっぱり、このまま

健二：ま、いっか…。

愛花：…？

They walk back to Manaka’s house together.

愛花：いいお天気だね？

健二：ああ…あ！マナカ姫、こっち！

Something falls to the ground from above them.

健二：危なかった…なんなんだ、まったく。

愛花：ありがとう…どこから降ってきたのかな…。

健二：（次からここを歩くときは気をつけよう）

They return to Manaka’s house. Manaka doubles back, wanting a kiss from Kenji.

愛花：門限なんて、忘れちゃいたい…。

And thus Kenji gives Manaka a goodbye kiss.

愛花：これからも、たくさんしようね？

He returns home to sleep, wondering if there’s something wrong with the way he was touching Manaka.

Just led a group of Japanese high schoolers around the city centre. Bunch of weirdos, the whole lot of them.

They walk to school together.

愛花：ねぇ、動物を飼うなら何がいい？

Didn’t we go through this conversation just yesterday?

健二：俺の部屋、ペット飼っちゃいけないからな…。

愛花：じゃあ「もし」飼うなら？

健二：現実的に考えると、金魚か亀かな。場所とらないし世話も楽しそうだし。

愛花：亀なら、ウサギのほうがいいよ。

健二：「ウサギとカメ」か。いいかもな、鳴かないし。

愛花：じゃあ、ウサギ！飼うなら、ウサギに決定だね？

健二：「もし」の話だよな？

They hold hands as they walk together.

Kenji then goes for tennis club.

健二：今日は調子がいいな。このまま頑張るぞ！

愛花：ナイス球拾い、なんて。

He then goes to the game centre to play darts.

健二：今日は調子良かったな！

Kenji then goes to the art gallery, where he is hastily pushed through by the crowds.

健二：ゆっくり見たかったのに。人が多すぎて、流されるままに出口まで来ちゃったよ…。

Kenji returns home and calls Manaka for a date tomorrow.

I know I should have gotten you to do this earlier, but I was caught up with real life commitments.

Anyway, since tomorrow is the Sunday after your anniversary, I think a trip to the shrine to pray for lasting togetherness would be appropriate.

愛花：はい、もしもし。

健二：俺だけど。

愛花：何か用事？べつに、なくてもかまわないんだけど。

健二：えっと…。10月18日、神社に行こうよ。どうかな？

Definitely confirmed that there was an ulterior motive to Kenji sleeping in.

Kenji moves in to kiss Manaka.

They walk to school together, this time discussing about what kind of pet he would like to rear.

I like little parrots. Feisty little creatures, but really cute.

健二：俺の部屋、ペット飼っちゃいけないからな…。

And that’s why if I ever get a chance to own (not rent) a house, I will take it. No landlords to take instructions from.

愛花：じゃあ「もし」飼うなら？

健二：現実的に考えると、金魚か亀かな。場所とらないし世話も楽しそうだし。

Used to keep goldfish, but they dirty the fish tank very quickly. Moved on to more local fish like gourami but never had them ever since the tank burst. Decided on chiclids after reconstructing the tank.

愛花：亀なら、ウサギのほうがいいよ。

健二：「ウサギとカメ」か。いいかもな、鳴かないし。

愛花：じゃあ、ウサギ！飼うなら、ウサギに決定だね？

A bit rushed, aren’t we?

健二：「もし」の話だよな？

They hold hands and kiss as they walk to school together.

During lunch break…

健二：なあ、あれから親御さんたち、仲直りした？

愛花：うーん…完全には、まだ。

健二：そっか…。

愛花：あっ、テレビはね、お料理番組だけはOKもらえたの。週に１回ぐらいだし、いいだろうって。

健二：やってじゃん！

愛花：ふふ、ありがとう。あなたの協力のおかげ。

健二：けど、どうして仲直りしないんだ？

愛花：なんでママが怒ったのか、その理由をパパが理解してないからだって。パパが、言っちゃいけない何かを言っちゃったみたいなんだけど…まったく心当たりがないみたい。どうして男の人ってそうなんだろうね、ってママと言ってるとこ。まだもう少し、続きそうよ？

健二：（俺も気をつけよう…）

They kiss in the classroom before leaving for their separate classes.

Kenji then goes for cultural festival preparations.

健二：せっかく準備してるんだから、成功するといいな。

愛花：ふふっ、頑張ろう？

They kiss in the classroom, since no one is looking.

Kenji then goes to the bay bridge during the evening.

健二：すごくロマンティックだな、来て良かった。
