Hiatus extension

Due to my less-than-flattering mid-term results, I will be extending this hiatus until the end of finals at the end of April.

Moonstone's Notes: The legendary beach

While assembling my plan for this summer's trip to Japan, I have also planned to go to Atami for a day trip, hopefully retracing the steps the two lovebirds took.

The two found the "legendary beach" on their first visit to Hatsushima, but they were never able to find it again, which frankly was a bit ridiculous after I went to check the length of the coastline of Hatsushima (3.2km).

To save myself from having to walk the entire length of the coastline, I pulled out that moment from the archives and found out that there was only one direction the coast would be.

Judging by the direction of the sun and the time this event occurred, I was able to conclude that the coastline was facing the south.

This cut the amount of coastline to search to 925 m, based on this map:

Well, only time will tell. I wonder what I will see if I get to go there.

Kenji goes for tennis in the morning.

健二：今日は先輩に勝てたぞ！絶好調だな！

愛花：やっぱり部活中のあなたって、ステキ。…なんて。

They meet at the small park since it’s a Sunday, unlike last year when Valentine’s was on a Saturday.

愛花：健二くん。

健二：わ、マナカちゃん！どうしたの？

愛花：あなたのほっぺたをね、落としに来たの。

健二：…２月14日！

愛花：ふふっ、当たり。はい、ご褒美。

健二：やった！ありがとう！

愛花：どういたしまして。ちゃんと、味わって食べるように。

健二：もちろん！

Kenji arrives at the station early.

健二：マナカちゃんは、まだ来てないみたいだな。

愛花：今日は寒いね。こんな日に待たせて怒ってる？

健二：待ってないって。時間ぴったりだから。

愛花：髪型変えちゃった。どう？

健二：そうだな…。

健二：いいな、そういうの。

愛花：ふふ、やった♥

Manaka is wearing a white one-piece dress under a pink cardigan.

愛花：最近、こういう可愛いのが好きなんだけど、どう？カレシとして感想を聞かせてくれない？

健二：そうだな…。いいんじゃない。

愛花：ほんと？よかった。あなたのことなら、なんでもわかるんだから、なんて。

They kiss before taking the train.

They stop over at the restaurant before going to the bay bridge.

愛花：ねぇ、夜、起きていられないの…。

健二：そりゃあ、一週間やそこらじゃ無理だって。

愛花：ハァ…。…あ！ねぇ、運動したらどうかな？目がさえて、起きていられるんじゃない？

健二：かえって逆効果だと思うな。疲れて眠くなりそう。

愛花：…やっぱり？

健二：うん。ここは地道に、少しずつ時間を延ばしていくしかないよ。

愛花：そうだね。…よし、頑張るぞ。

健二：（ホント、マナカちゃんは努力を惜しまないよな。それが何であっても）

As they walk to the bay bridge…

愛花：ライオンが走ってる…。

健二：どこ!?まさか、動物園のライオンが逃亡中とか!?でもだれも騒いでないな。あ、ドッキリか。やるなマナカちゃん。マナカちゃん…？

愛花：う、うん！ドッキリなの！大成功…。

健二：（この態度…本気？まさかな？）

They hold hands as they walk to the bridge.

At the bridge…

健二：お。フジツボだ。

愛花；知ってる？もう少し大きくなると、食べられるの。カニみたいな味がして美味しいのよ？

Wow. Barnacles are edible?

Though I wouldn’t be too surprised at the taste. They are related to crabs after all.

健二：マナカちゃん、食べたことあるの？

Usually found in Hokkaido. No idea why I never tried it when I was there.

愛花：うん、いつだったか、パパが獲ってきて…それからは、もう少しで食べごろかな？って思うようになっちゃった♥

健二：（マナカちゃんの食いしん坊は、親父さん譲り？）

Talk about Baader-Meinhof phenomenon. My current Japanese lecturer’s given name is譲 (pronounced exactly as the verb that uses this character), and I have always said about how I would probably never encounter that character in real life.

They kiss at the bay bridge.

愛花：この気持ち…どうすればあなたに伝わるかな？

愛花：ねぇ…わたし、まだ、時間あるかも。

健二：じゃあ、どこか寄っていく？

愛花：そうしよう！ね、どこに行く？

健二：じゃあ…天羽山。

愛花：うん、行こうか？

健二：よし、行こう！

They take the train to the mountains.

愛花：車の運転免許って、取るの大変なのかな。

And that’s why I don’t have a licence.

Besides, a driving licence is kind of useless without a car to drive. Public transport is acceptable enough for most cases in Singapore anyway.

健二：どうかな…取りたいの？危ないからって禁止されてそうなイメージなんだけど。

愛花：将来、お医者さんになるなら必要なものだから、それは大丈夫。うちは回診もしてるから。

健二：なるほどな…ちゃんと考えてるんだ。

愛花：でも、あなたとドライブに行ってみたい、なんて言ったら禁止されちゃうかも。ナイショにしててね？

They arrive at the mountains. This season’s event is skiing.

健二：マナカちゃん、ずいぶん上達したな？スキー。

愛花：ふふっ、嬉しい！教え上手なコーチのおかげ、かな？…ずっと、わたしにかかりっきりだもんね。上級コースとか、滑りたかったら遠慮しないで言ってきてね？

健二：行きたくなったらな？今はマナカちゃんのそばから離れたくないから行かない。

愛花：！　もう…バカ。

They kiss after skiing.

愛花：大好きよ？…心から。

They then have dinner at the riverside restaurant.

愛花：健二くん。一つだけ、聞いていい？

健二：うん、いいけど？

愛花：ね、一人のときってどういう場所に行ってるの？

健二：そうだなぁ…。

1.      落ち着けるところ

2.      体を動かせるところ

3.      流行のところ

4.      遊べるところ

健二：遊べるところ、かな。

愛花：それって、ヘンな遊びじゃないよね？

健二：あ、当たり前だろ！

愛花：ふふっ、冗談だから焦らないの。そっか、遊べるところ、かぁ…。

They kiss at the station before proceeding back to Manaka’s house.

As they walk back, they hear a bird singing.

愛花：見て、小枝に鳥がとまってる。つがいかな？

健二：かもな。寄り添ってて、ヤケに仲がいいし。

愛花：…。

健二：ん？

愛花：わたしも、真似しちゃおうかな？ぴたってして、いい？

They hold hands as they walk together. Kenji doesn’t get to kiss Manaka due to the crowds around him.

愛花：ちょ、ちょっと…。

As Manaka walks back home, she doubles back, wanting a goodbye kiss from Kenji.

愛花：よけいに、帰りたくなくなっちゃう。

And thus they kiss.

愛花：このまま、ずっとこうしていられたらいいのに…。

Kenji returns home to see that he has received a text from Manaka.

愛花：あのね。６時からって、時間空いてる？会いたいな…なんて。

Holy shit man. You guys just had a date. Didn’t know you wanted to be with Kenji so much.

健二：もちろん行く！

愛花：よかった。家の前で待ってるから、またあとでね。

Kenji arrives at Manaka’s house early.

健二：マナカちゃんは、まだ来てないみたいだな。

…

愛花：ひょっとして、待たせちゃったのかな？

健二：ううん、今来たところ。

They go to the fast food restaurant.

健二：ところでさ…。

愛花：うん。なに？

健二：マナカちゃんにも、女の人で憧れる人っている？

愛花：もちろん。

健二：そっか、どんな人？

愛花：昔から家でお世話になってるケーキ屋さんが近所にあるの。そのお店の、店長さん。その人は、わたし達くらいの頃、独りでフランスに行って、修行をしてきたんだって。

健二：そりゃ、すごいな…。

愛花：でしょ？自分と比べると、どうしてそんなこと出来るんだろうって。勇気あるな、って。きっとね、家族の反対とか、言葉の不安が…。それでも、どうしてもやりたいことがあるなんて、素敵だと思う。

健二：なるほど、マナカちゃんの理想像なんだな？

愛花：うん。わたしがお菓子作りをはじめたのもね、その人のマネ。…バレちゃった。

健二：（フランス修行…俺にも出来るだろうか？…いや、出来ないな）

I could probably handle an overseas attachment. Just not to France. I hated that place. Give me Germany or Japan any time of the year.

They kiss outside of the fast food restaurant before Kenji brings Manaka home.

He then goes to the karaoke house.

健二：ここ、人目につかなそうな場所もあったんだな。ここなら彼女と二人きりになれるかも…。

As he returns home, he receives an info text.

一か所だけ言って終わりのデートってのもさびしいよな。さらに別の場所に行こうとするなら、知識と運動が必要だな。

I’ve fallen behind.

Also, I’m an idiot: In Japan the boyfriend does not give any present for the girlfriend for Valentine’s Day.

That would be for White Day.

During recess…

健二：魚料理のことだけど。

愛花：うん、いい方法ないかな？

健二：買うときに、頭を落としてもらえばいいんじゃないか？

愛花：それだと鮮度が…それに、根本的な解決にはならないし。

If I remember correctly, you could lift up to see the gills to see if it’s still red if you don’t want to look at its eyes.

健二：サングラスかけて料理したら？魚の目も気にならなくなる。

愛花：それじゃ変な人だよ。

健二：魚の目を絵の具で塗り潰す。マジックでもいいけど。

That’s probably not food-safe…

愛花：ちょっと残酷…。

健二：もう死んでるんだし。

愛花：だからって…よくないよ。

健二：まあ、そうだよな…。

They touch for a while before going off for their separate classes.

Later on during lunch break…

健二：ところでさ…。

愛花：うん。なに？

健二：マナカちゃんはさ、恋愛って、どんな風に考えてる？

愛花：恋なんてしなかったら嫉妬とか、ヤキモチとか…そんなイヤな感情、知らずに済んだのかな。…なんて、思ったりするよ？本当のこと、言うと。

健二：そっか…。

愛花：でも、その分…ううん、それ以上に素敵なことも教えてもらってる。だから、手放せないの。こんなの初めてだから、今は迷ってばっかり。わたしをこんな子にした責任、ちゃんと取ってね？…なんて。

健二：（マナカちゃん…）

They touch for a while before going for their separate classes.

Kenji then goes for tennis practice.

健二：今日は調子が悪いな。ほとんど拾えなかった…。

愛花：ナイス球拾い、なんて。

He then goes to the shopping mall.

健二：さて、どこに入ろう？）

1.      ブティックに入ろう

2.      コスメショップに入ろう

3.      アクセサリーショップに入ろう

健二：よし、アクセサリーショップに入ろう。

店員：いらっしゃいませー。

…

店員：ありがとうございましたー。

健二：ブラブラ見て回っただけだけど、結構楽しかったな。

Kenji returns home and receives a text from Manaka.

愛花：おやすみなさい。寒いから、風邪ひかないようにあったかくして寝てね？

健二：＜気持ちを込めて返信＞

愛花：ふふ、やっぱりメールだけじゃなくて会いたくなっちゃうな。なんて

And since this coming Sunday is Valentine’s Day, might as well schedule a date then.

愛花：はい、もしもし。

健二：俺だけど。

愛花：何か用事？べつに、なくてもかまわないんだけど。

健二：えっと…。２月14日、ベイブリッジに行こうよ。どうかな？

愛花：期待通りでよかった。うん、いいよ。あとは当日も期待通りだと嬉しいな、なんて。じゃあ、持ち合わせは何時にしようか？

              

I would suggest some time in the afternoon.

健二：そうだな…。３:00PM

愛花：うん、それでいいよ。

健二：じゃあ、PM３時０分に新とわの駅で。

愛花：ふふ…きっと今からその日まで、ずっとドキドキしちゃう。

健二：そっか、誘った甲斐があったよ。

愛花：じゃあ、またね。おやすみ。

健二：うん。おやすみ。

愛花：ほら。電話、切ろうよ。

健二：そっちだって。

愛花：切りたくないな…。じゃあ…好き！〈ビッ〉

健二：え!?（び、びっくりした）

Hiatus announcement

Due to mid-terms, I will be putting this game on hiatus until earliest next week.
